The Suffolk Youth Climate Conference gives high school students the tools to turn their enthusiasm for the recovery of our climate into action.
In 2023, Suffolk’s Climate Change Partnership held the first Youth Climate Conference at West Suffolk College. Practical workshops, a whole host of local organisations and charities and BBC Presenter, Megan McCubbin, left attendees bursting to take action in their local communities.
In 2024, three times the number of students flocked to Suffolk One with 91% of students leaving feeling inspired to take action. All 250 attendees pledged to write to their local Member of Parliament about climate change after being inspired by this year’s guest speakers Chris Packham, Kids Against Plastic, Lord Deben and Scarlett Westbrook. This year, the workshops ranged from electric vehicles to nature-based solutions, the global food system to coastal adaptation, plastic pollution to flood and water management and sustainable fashion to climate anxiety. Teachers also took part in a day of training on taking environmental action in their schools, and are now part of a new network of high schools across the county coming together to tackle the climate crisis.
